TierraMar Science Institute

Conservation informed through science.

Creating a legacy of protected lands through scientific research, meaningful conservation, and education.

TierraMar Science Institute was founded out a shared love of land and a desire to protect open spaces. We work with landowners, agricultural producers, researchers, and like-minded conservationists. Our mission is to create a legacy of protected lands, support important scientific research, and advance conservation education.

Why It Matters

6k

Every day, 6,000 acres of open space is converted to other uses in the U.S.

5%

Only 5% of endangered plants and animals receive sufficient conservation funding.

1 mil

1 million plant and animal species are in danger of extinction.

80%

80% of the U.S. population is urban. Development is forecasted to increase 39-69 million acres from 2010 to 2060.

Strategic action for a better future.

At TierraMar Science Institute, our focus on education and research in our conservation work sets us apart. Our community is committed to strategic action in order to conserve valuable natural and working landscapes. We seek to inform restoration, reconciliation, and conservation efforts through the best available science, to create a network of protected natural and working landscapes, and to facilitate education and career opportunities in conservation-related fields through nationwide academic funding. TierraMar Science Institute provides research grants, academic scholarships, and funding to better understand and protect at-risk ecosystems.
